With children, I very gently and softly help the child to open the doors to self-awareness and self-ownership. As play is a child’s language, I use developmentally appropriate play therapy tools, combined with a safe therapeutic relationship, to create a sense of security as we carefully explore appropriate mentally stressful experiences. Healing often proceeds out of a safe, often child-directed, environment.
When appropriate, the use of art, role-play, play therapy and the sand tray are also useful tools I incorporate in therapy.
